The best content you'll ever make comes from moments you stopped trying to capture. Sam, Elias & Kajsa have spent years learning that, hiking every corner of the Alps and building audiences by showing up fully to the experience first. Hike & Create is built around the same idea. The experience is the priority and the content comes naturally from it. We'll share how we actually work, move through locations together, and spend real time with each of you helping you capture your best moments along the way. More than anything, this is about bringing together a group of like-minded, young and enthusiastic people who love being in the mountains and are genuinely inspired to create.

Arrive at Hotel Alpenrose, Wasserauen and meet the group. Take the cable car from Ebenalp gondola up into the mountains, then begin the short and scenic hike (~1 hour) up to Berggasthaus Schäfler at 2,000m.
Afternoon
Settle in, explore the iconic Schäfler ridgeline, and soak up views that stretch across the Appenzell Alps.
Evening
Watch the sunset from the ridge with the group. Dinner & drinks at the hut.
DAY 2
Morning
Wake up to sunrise on the Schäfler ridgeline — one of the highlights of the whole trip. Breakfast at the hut, then begin the leisurely descent to Seealpsee (2 hrs), stopping at all the best spots along the way.
Afternoon
Lunch at the lake followed by a swim into the most beautiful lake in the Alps. Then hike up to Meglisalp (~45–60 min) through open mountain pastures.
Evening
Arrive at Berggasthaus Meglisalp and reward yourself with a soak in the outdoor hot tub. Dinner together as a group. Night at Meglisalp.
DAY 3
Morning
Another Alpine sunrise. Breakfast at Berggasthaus Meglisalp before packing up and heading out into the Alpstein wilderness.
Afternoon
Hike to the remote Falensee (2–3 hrs), a hidden alpine lake surrounded by dramatic cliffs. Swim, explore, and create.
Evening
Arrive at Bollenwees, set in one of the most dramatic lakeside settings in the Alpstein. Dinner and the final night together at the hut.
DAY 4
Morning
Optional sunrise at Saxer Lücke for those who want one last golden-hour moment. Then back to Bollenwees for a final breakfast together before the last hike of the trip.
Afternoon
Hike back down to Wasserauen (~1.5–2 hrs) through the valley, arriving back where it all started. Say your goodbyes — or don't, you've got 11 new friends now.
Note
All times are at a relaxed, content-friendly pace with plenty of stops along the way. We never rush.

Night 1
2,000m · Appenzell Innerrhoden
Perched on the iconic Schäfler ridgeline at 2,000m, this is one of the most dramatically situated mountain huts in Switzerland. Simple, cosy, and completely above it all — you'll fall asleep with nothing but the Alps around you.

Night 2
1,517m · Appenzell Innerrhoden
Set in a wide open alpine valley, Meglisalp is the most comfortable hut of the trip — and has the hot tub to prove it. Modern facilities, hot showers, and a warm atmosphere make this the perfect reward after Day 2 on the trail.

Night 3
1,472m · Appenzell Innerrhoden
Remote, dramatic, and right on the edge of a mountain lake — Bollenwees is the kind of place you'd never find without someone showing you the way. The last hut of the trip, and often the most memorable.
Hey, we are Elias & Kajsa! For the past 7 years we've lived full-time off our cameras, travelling for a living and spending most of our year in our van exploring the mountains of Norway and the Alps. Switzerland is a place we come back to every single year without fail — and this corner of the Appenzell is our favourite of all of it. We love meeting like-minded people who are up for an adventure and want to explore the creative side of life, and we can't wait to share it with you.
Hey, I'm Sam! I've dedicated the past few years of my life to exploring every corner of the Alps — I know the place like the back of my hand. I've been to Appenzell many times and there is a reason I keep coming back! I'm so excited to share these mountains with you, swim in some alpine lakes and create some insane content with you!
Top Highlights
Everything is organised so you can focus entirely on the experience.
Flights & Transport
Getting to and from Wasserauen is on you. We recommend flying into Zurich.
Lunch
Lunch is not included — budget ~20–30 CHF per day at the huts.
Drinks
Drinks are not included — budget for these alongside your meals.
Travel Insurance (Required)
All participants must hold valid travel insurance including mountain rescue cover before the trip. This is non-negotiable.
The trip starts and ends in Wasserauen, a small village in the Appenzell Alps. There are two easy ways to get there from Zurich:
By train (recommended): From Zurich HB, take a train towards St. Gallen, then connect onto the Appenzeller Bahnen towards Appenzell, and continue one stop to Wasserauen. The whole journey takes around 2 hours and runs regularly throughout the day. Wasserauen station is right at the start of the route — you step off the train and you're there.
By car: There is a pay and display car park right at Wasserauen, at the start of the route. From Zurich it's approximately 1.5 hours via the A1 motorway towards St. Gallen, then following signs for Appenzell and Wasserauen. You can leave your car there for the duration of the trip.
The route is moderate — suitable for anyone with a good fitness level and a head for heights. The trails are well-marked (Swiss white-red-white grade) with no technical climbing required. We hike at a relaxed, content-friendly pace with plenty of stops. If you can comfortably walk uphill for a few hours, you'll be fine. Day 1 is the easiest day, with Days 2–4 covering slightly more elevation.
It varies by hut. Schäfler (Night 1) has sink facilities only — part of the authentic mountain experience. Meglisalp (Night 2) has hot showers with toiletries provided. Bollenwees (Night 3) has coin-operated showers available. Pack a small travel towel and a good attitude.
Not at all. The most important thing is that you're good vibes and open to the pace of the trip — if others want to stop and create, you're cool with it. The experience always comes first. Great content is the natural byproduct of showing up fully. Whether you have 500 followers or 500K, you're welcome here.
We recommend bringing a lightweight sleeping bag liner — it's small, light, and ensures you're comfortable at altitude. The huts provide blankets, but a liner keeps things cosy. A full sleeping bag is not necessary.
Switzerland uses Swiss Francs (CHF). Budget roughly 150–250 CHF for the 4 days to cover lunch each day (~20–30 CHF), any drinks, and extras. The Ebenalp cable car on Day 1 is included in your trip cost. Cards are accepted at the huts but having some cash is useful.
Once your application is accepted, we'll send you a payment link to secure your place with a €500 non-refundable deposit. The remaining €1,350 is due by 7 June 2026. All payment details will be included in your acceptance email.
Yes — you're welcome to apply together. Just mention each other in your applications. We can't guarantee both spots as we're carefully curating the group, but we'll do our best. If one of you is accepted and the other isn't, we'll let you know straightaway.
Once your place is confirmed, we'll add you to a group chat where we'll share everything you need — packing lists, meeting point details, what to expect on each day, and any last-minute updates. You'll never be left wondering what's happening.
The trip is open to anyone 18 and over. Most of our community falls in the 20s and 30s bracket, and we're looking for people who are enthusiastic, positive, and genuinely excited to be in the mountains — attitude matters far more than age.
The mountain huts use shared dormitory-style rooms — this is part of the authentic alpine experience. Schäfler has shared 4-person rooms; Meglisalp and Bollenwees have similar communal setups. Come prepared for mountain hut life — it's cosy, social, and genuinely one of the best parts of the trip.
No specific experience is required, but you should be comfortable walking uphill for a few hours with a day pack. The route is graded moderate by Swiss standards, with well-marked trails and no technical climbing. We move at a relaxed pace with plenty of stops. If you exercise regularly and enjoy being outdoors, you'll be absolutely fine.
The €500 deposit is non-refundable in all circumstances — it covers costs already committed on your behalf. Full payment of the remaining €1,350 is due by 7 June 2026. If you cancel before 7 June, your remaining balance will be refunded in full. If you cancel after 7 June, no refund is available as your spot cannot be filled at short notice. If we are able to find a replacement from the waitlist, we will refund 50% of the total amount paid. In the unlikely event the trip is cancelled by the organisers, you will receive a full refund within 14 days. We strongly recommend travel insurance that includes trip cancellation cover.
Yes — travel insurance with mountain rescue cover is required for all participants. This is non-negotiable. Mountain rescue in Switzerland can cost thousands of Swiss Francs and we cannot take responsibility for anyone who is not adequately covered. Make sure your policy includes hiking at altitude and helicopter evacuation if needed. We recommend sorting this as soon as your place is confirmed.
Only 9 spots available — Free to Apply :)
July 7–10, 2026 · Appenzell, Switzerland
We receive a lot of applications and work hard to bring together the best possible group. If we have a spot for you, we'll reach out via WhatsApp.
Accepted applicants will be asked to secure their place with a €500 non-refundable deposit.
By applying you confirm that you are in good physical health, have adequate experience for moderate mountain terrain, and will arrange your own travel and mountain rescue insurance before the trip. Sam, Elias & Kajsa are content creators, not licensed alpine guides. Participation in mountain activities involves inherent risks and each participant is responsible for their own safety throughout.
